Tasty Tuesday – December 4, 2007

So my husband and I are addicted to the Food Network. On weekend nights, when most people are watching movies, we’re likely to be getting ideas from Good Eats or Iron Chef. The other night, we were watching Ina Garten, the Barefoot Contessa, and she made this really yummy-looking, really simple meal, the centerpiece of which was chicken piccata. It basically is chicken fried in breadcrumbs with a white wine and lemon sauce over the top. With the chicken, she served buttermilk mashed potatoes and roasted onions. Yum! Hubby made the onions the other night, and they were, indeed, delish. As soon as I can get to the grocery store, I’m going to buy ingredients for the chicken.

I’m not sure how kosher it is to cut and paste recipes, so I’ll just link.

You can find recipes for the entire meal here.

And the chicken piccata is here.

Is anybody else as enamored of cooking shows as we are? What are your favorites, and which dishes have you taken from a cooking show that turned into family favorites?

Marty and I watch the Food Network all the time. It’s great because the shows are really “kid” friendly and the boys can watch them too. I personally love Iron Chef America – even more so now that the various Food Network chefs are partnering into teams. I also love Dinner Impossible and Diners, Drive Inns and Dives (I rooted for Guy Fieri when he was on Next Food Network Star).

We love the food network. My daughter adores Rachel Ray, I love semi homemade not only for her easy delicious food but for her table scapes and cocktails. In the summer I never miss Boy meets Grill it’s just too cold here in the winter. Those are our favs but I don’t think there’s a show on that channel we don’t watch. I will say falling to sleep with it on can result in some great recipes and a very hungry stomach when you awake.

Mmmm…. that chicken picatta recipe looks so good! I really like that dish so I’ll have to try that recipe. Barefoot Contessa is my favorite– I’m obsessed with her show. I just saw that she’s now making gift baskets for 1800flowers.com (http://www.1800flowers.com/refer.do?r=chefshp&d=10671)
I want the dessert one for myself!!

My new favorite show is “Just Cook This With Sam” – it is on Discovery Health and he has great recipes for busy parents. They are realistic and easy (not to mention somewhat healthy). I am not sure his show has caught on yet…but I enjoy it! You can find his recipes at Discovery health.com – I’m rooting for him to be successful!
