Get Ready Cincinnati, Good Housekeeping Is Coming!

I am not a good housekeeper. I am, in fact, a rather terrible housekeeper, as anyone who has visited or lived in my home can attest. But no matter how bad the dustbunnies and laundry piles get, I still harbor hope that one day, I will be a Good Housekeeper. I even read the magazine Good Housekeeping, as if perhaps I will absorb by osmosis the great knowledge and tips it offers, and magically whip my home into shape!

This weekend (May 29-31), I’ll definitely be stopping by the Good Housekeeping Research Institute Mobile Tour at the Taste of Cincinnati. It’s the final stop for this interactive model of the Good Housekeeping Research Institute, celebrating the 100th birthday of the Good Housekeeping Seal and raising awareness of the science behind it. The traveling exhibit re-creates the labs where some of your favorite products ranging from vacuum cleaners to skin moisturizers are put through a battery of tests. Maybe I can learn something that will help me achieve my own seal of approval–having a clean, organized house.

One of the tour’s partners is Protect-A-Bed, which I’ve talked about before on WMAG. This is a brand that anyone with children and/or pets should get to know, because they offer mattress-protecting products that keep all kinds of nastiness from infiltrating your bed. You can “Like” them on Facebook or follow them on Twitter for updates.

In honor of the tour, Protect-A-Bed was kind enough to give me a couple of tools that may help me be a better housekeeper, as well as offer these same goodies to one of our lucky readers! They are:

Protect-A-Bed’s Premium Mattress Protector & Pillow Protector
The Protect-A-Bed® Premium mattress protector is the popular flagship mid-market model, offering the line’s standard features and benefits. In addition, the Protect-A-Bed® Premium mattress protector offers our unique Miracle Membrane® with the Total Heat Transference Formula. These mattress protectors are valued between $59.99 and $99.99 (based on size).

Protect-A-Bed® Premium pillow protectors provide protection for you and your pillow. The super soft, absorbent, yet ultra-thin Premium pillow protectors are air vapor porous and cool, protect you from allergens, dust mites and bacteria. Your pillow will also be protected from stains, and our Premium pillow protectors can be machine washed on hot and tumble dried on medium. These pillow protectors are valued between $19.99 and $22.99 (based on size).

Bissell’s Pet Hair Eraser Vacuum
This vacuum’s special features clean pet hair and more. (Hello, you had me at pet hair!) There’s MultiCyclonic separation for superior suction, a Pet Hair Lifter and rotating brush to remove dirt and pet hair, along with a Pet Contour Tool® and Pet TurboBrush®. This vacuum is valued at $149.99.

Want to win the big ol’ prize package of mattress protector, pillow protector, and the vacuum? Leave a comment on this post (please include your email address so we can contact you!) telling us why you need a little help in the housekeeping department. We’ll select one winner at random after 5 p.m. ET on Sunday, May 30. Good luck!

Winner Update: The Protect-a-Bed mattress and pillow protectors and Bissell vacuum go to … Princess Poodle Puss! Congratulations, and have a happy Memorial Day. Thanks to all who entered.

I feel as if I spend all day walking around my house and picking things up and putting them back where they belong! AM I the only one who knows where anything is supposed to go?? Lisa.anne@fuse.net

I HATE cleaning… and I have a cat that sheds enough fur to equal 3 cats! Plus carrying the vacuum up the stairs is never fun!

I hate me some cleaning. But it's a necessary evil. My family teases me when I read Good Housekeeping and tell me I should create my own magazine – Bad Housekeeping. Think there's an audience? Please enter me in the contest. Thanks!

I can completely relate to this post…I'm not sure whether to laugh or cry:) I am also an aspiring good housekeeper.

  6. Catherine says:

I have a 4 year old and a pet. Winning any of these products might keep me from lusting after the Absolut in the freezer on certain evenings of puke-itude, if you get my drift.

    So, yeah. Hope I win.

oh my…since going back to work I've struggled so much, laundry piling up…..kids stuff everywhere…let alone a dog, 2 lizards, and a husband who tends to leave stuff everywhere….

Why are mom's looked upon as bad parents when the house is a mess? Why can't men help clean, fold, feed, vacumn, or otherwise set things straight?

  8. Anonymous says:

I am in the same boat as everyone else; work, kids, dog, etc. And we just moved, so clutter x 10 on top of the usual piles.

I actually like to clean, believe it or not, but time is always an issue. Anything that helps make it go faster/easier would be so appreciated.

My house can look nice when it's clean; or at least picked up. I miss that!

I truly need help in the housekeeping department b/c I work full-time with 3 young kids. My husband is working on his Ph.D, and is always away. So I have no help and we are long overdue for a house cleaning and for some organization. :(

  11. Janice says:

I'm always wondering why I am the only one in the house who sees how dirty the house is, and of course, I'm the only one vacuuming, cleaning the bathrooms, etc. Since housecleaning is a full-time job, then I must be working 2 jobs!

What working mother couldn't use a litte help in the housekeeping department? The protectors sound wonderful – there's nothing to make you feel less sanitary than stained yellow bed pillows. stephanie_a_webb (at) yahoo.com

I could use this so bad right now! We have a cat and a dog who shed all over and lay on our beds all the time when we forget to close doors…we are in the process of moving and therefore this house is a disaster! Thanks for the chance to win these great items!

  15. Heidi says:

I am a terrible house cleaner. It's not that I don't know how, ummm, I just don't like it. I wish I was one of those people who can't sit still until they see vacuum cleaner lines in the carpet, but I'm just not. I do, however, hate cat hair all over the house. And we're about to get a new cat — maybe two. I also am in desperate need of a queen mattress protector. So I do hope you'll tweet me @hmfrank. (PS, I'm big fan of Taste of Cincinnati — I'm a Miami alum.)

    Ah yes, housecleaning . . .

I have been known to put "a *reasonably* clean house" on my party invites, under "What to expect" ;-)
