If you find it fun to walk or jog on a treadmill, let’s just say you’re in the minority. All the experts will tell you exercise is good for our bodies—but who says we have to work up a sweat doing activities we don’t enjoy? Instead, seek out a physical activity that gets your heart rate up or strengthens your muscles that you also like doing.
My mom thoroughly enjoys being in water and chatting with her friends, so her regular water aerobics class is a great example of fun fitness. My son’s preschool teacher is crazy about Zumba—and she’s a pretty awesome teacher, so leading a regular Zumba class makes total sense for her. If going to the gym makes you sad, but you love to be outside in nature, here’s a fun alternative: Find a nearby park or nature preserve where you can walk, run, do calisthenics, etc. Not only will you enjoy your workouts, but you’ll be more likely to stay active because you’re motivated by fun.
