Susan’s Finds
— Reduce, reuse, recycle your kids’ stuff. Who knew having kids meant having so much crap? Zwaggle offers parents a chance to swap gently used things with other families in the network, while earning points for new stuff. Sounds like a cool way to save dough and the earth.
— I like poking fun at office shenanigans. See if you can identify your office’s “Bob” by watching the videos and reading the files on WhoHiredBob.com, a new site promoting Tassimo one-cup coffeemakers. Or take a picture of your messy office and you could win big cash in this contest. You probably won’t win, though, because my hubs is going to enter and he definitely has the messiest home office I HAVE EVER SEEN.
— Do you know of a deserving family badly in need of help with home repairs or services? Nominate them for Angie’s List Wishmakers program, which matches winners with highly rated service companies who volunteer their time. See the results of last year’s program and send an email to Angie’s List with your nomination.
— Are you as sick of winter as I am? Take the kids on a one-day escape to a water park. If you live in Chicago, Boston, Columbus (OH), Cincinnati, Rockford (IL), Mount Laurel (NJ), Kansas City, or Omaha, you can take advantage of $10 specials at CoCo Key Water Resort. Our sitter took her family (plus Cassie) there earlier this week and raved about it.
There’s also Great Wolf Lodge, which has locations in Kansas City, Mason (OH), Niagara Falls (Canada), Pocono Mountains (PA), Sandusky (OH), Traverse City (MI), Williamsburg (VA), Wisconsin Dells, Grapevine (TX), Grand Mound (WA), and Concord (NC).
Cara’s Finds
—She’s crafty. Sure the lady has no personality. But sometimes I secretly wish I was crafting right along side Ms. Martha. You can’t deny her (and her supportive staff’s) many talents. Like these adorable hankie holders made out of a piece of felt–so cute! And check out the Martha Stewart Show’s massive prop room. I’d be like a kid in a candy store. (BTW, I think the hankie holder instructions are wrong. They’re instructions for making a pencil case. See, Martha does need me by her side!)
—Red carpet trivia. The 80th Annual Academy Awards show is on this Sunday. Get ready for all the glitz and glamor by playing the Guess the Oscar Dress! game on People.com. I guessed 8 out of 10 dresses right.
Hi! I read about your blog in March’s issue of Real Simple. If you cannot afford to get away this winter to someplace wonderful where you can relive summer, try taking a swimming lesson instead! Find an indoor pool in your area that cranks the heat up to 89-degrees and live large.
I have a swim blog for parents at squidkid.org if you are interested in anything swimming related.
Cheers!
