We aren’t wealthy, but my kids have definitely received things and had experiences many other children don’t get. I want them to understand that trips to Disney World don’t just magically happen and gaming systems don’t just fall from trees. I want them to respect the fact that these gifts are made possible by labors of love on the part of their dad and me. So this year, I’d like to set a family goal—a special trip or a bigger-ticket item we can all enjoy—and work to save the money we need, together.
