Getting a Picky Toddler to Try Healthy Foods

How do you convince your picky toddler to try a variety of nutritious foods? This mom recently discovered a simple way to up her son's veggie intake.

I have a hard time getting O to eat dinner. Daycare says he eats great. At home? Not so much.

One food I can usually get him to eat is peas. He loves himself some peas. Sue suggested I try feeding him foods similar to the shape of peas. She thought maybe he liked foods he could easily pick up and pop in his mouth. In the hopes of getting a picky toddler to try healthy foods, I was looking for any possible inspiration.

Duh, I never even thought of that! I figured it couldn’t hurt to try, and that’s when I happened upon Green Giant Healthy Weight thingamabobs. I honestly didn’t see the Immunity Boost or Healthy Vision part of the product line—I was just looking for small round foods O would like to pick up. Healthy Weight fit the bill. I could take the snap peas out of their shells, and there were black beans and edamame, too! Score. And maybe, just maybe, the carrots would pass muster, too.

It worked. Both O and I loved the dish. And the fact that it’s a snap to make—just pop in the microwave for a few minutes—doesn’t hurt either. Thanks Sue! And Green Giant!
